Hyderabad: Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah alleged that the ‘representatives of Razakars’ have been sitting in Parliament for the past 40 years. He appealed to the people to vote for the BJP, aiming to integrate Hyderabad with the mainstream.

The Home Minister Amit Shah was speaking after a roadshow in the Old City area of Hyderabad in support of BJP candidate K. Madhavi Latha.

Amit Shah, without directly naming Asaduddin Owaisi, the incumbent MP and President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), issued a call to “liberate Hyderabad from Razakars.” He emphasized, “For 40 years, the representatives of Razakars sat there (Parliament). But you have an opportunity this time, so elect Madhavi Latha by a huge majority.”

The Razakars were paramilitary volunteers who sought to aid the Nizam government in maintaining the independence of Hyderabad State after India gained Independence in 1947. However, the Hyderabad State merged with the Indian Union on September 17, 1948, following Operation Polo, commonly referred to as ‘Police Action’.

“Vote with a free mind this time… Every voter, irrespective of their religion, should press the Lotus button to integrate Hyderabad with the mainstream,” Amit Shah stated.

The roadshow commenced from the Mahankali Temple in Lal Darwaza and culminated at Sudha Talkies in the Shahali Banda area.

Accompanied by Madhavi Latha and state BJP president G. Kishan Reddy, the Home Minister waved at the sizable crowd from an open vehicle, prominently displaying the BJP’s poll symbol.

The Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency is widely regarded as a stronghold of the AIMIM, as the party has maintained an unbroken winning streak here since 1984.

Asaduddin Owaisi is vying for re-election for a fifth consecutive term. Previously, his father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, had been elected from the seat for six terms.
