General Elections 2024: The voting commenced at 7 am today for the third phase, spanning 93 constituencies across 11 states and Union Territories. In the Phase three of the Lok Sabha Polls held on May 7, the voter turnout stood at approximately 63.23 percent across 93 seats, as per the latest data released by the Election Commission of India. Assam recorded the highest voter turnout at 75.30 percent, trailed by Goa at 74.47 percent, and West Bengal at 73.93 percent.

Gujarat recorded the lowest voter turnout at 57.25 percent.

Interestingly, during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the same 93 seats had witnessed a higher turnout of 67.33 percent.

The figures, updated until 10:00 pm on May 7, confirm speculations of a decrease in voter turnout compared to the previous Lok Sabha Elections held in 2019.

In this phase, over 1300 candidates, with approximately 120 women among them, are contesting. A total of 17.24 crore voters are eligible to cast their franchise across 1.85 lakh polling stations.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Key Contestants

Prominent leaders contesting in Phase 3 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former Madhya Pradesh chief ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Digvijaya Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav, and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, among others.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Result in last General Elections

In the 2019 general election, the BJP secured victory in 72 out of the 93 seats that are being contested in today’s polls.

However, there will be no voting for Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday, as the Election Commission of India (ECI) has rescheduled the polling to the sixth phase, which will now take place on May 25. Initially, this seat was supposed to go to polls in the third phase along with the other 93 seats.

The Lok Sabha elections are unfolding over seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1. The counting of votes is slated for June 4.
